• VisPhys

VisualizingPhysics (VisPhys) is an awesome new project we’ve started to combat conceptual misunderstandings in intro-level physics content. VisPhys seeks to improve concept retention, comprehension, and physical and mathematical intuition for physics students at UNC-CH through collaboration and community. After winning the Marsh White Award from the American Physical Society (APS) for Outreach Projects, we are putting this scholarship money to good use with our plans for VisPhys.

Are you struggling or have you ever struggled with an introductory physics course?

Not finding introductory concepts intuitive or logical?

Do you feel like your learning style requires more engagement with physics outside of the classroom?

VisPhys may be just the program for you! We hold the following at our workshops to encourage deeper understanding of introductory physics concepts:

    • Collaborative group projects
      • Encouraging students to collaborate on smaller projects related to mechanics, relativity, and electromagnetism
    • Physics demonstrations
      • Exploring mini-experiments that make abstract concepts more tangible and engaging
    • Conceptual think-tanks
      • Teaching and brainstorming ways to think about abstract concepts and mathematical techniques essential to the undergraduate physics degree
